tipi for hire
Our newly installed tipi will be in the beer garden over the next few months. If you’re having a party, why not call us? We can provide full catering and bar facilities and if you’re really going to let your hair down, we can also provide all the fun of a silent disco.
“Intimate and cosy” “Lovely beer garden” “Really fun location”
When the tipi isn’t being hired out, it’s free to use by all our visitors. You can reserve a table in the tipi if you fancy dining in the only (as far as we know) tipi dining space in town.
We pride ourselves on serving some of the best craft brewed beers in Cambridge. We have partnered with Brewboard to ensure that we always have at least four of their beers on tap. Brewboard also brew our own in-house lager ‘The Guv’nor’, which is proving to be extremely popular.
“Lovely atmosphere” “Great beers and wines” “Cute little beer garden”
Our wines and spirits are provided by the award winning Cambridge Wine Merchants and we also serve freshly ground coffee and have a wide range of teas and soft drinks.
Besides our own food service, we also have a fantastic range of pop-up food vendors; bringing you something special every week of the year
Emma of Hanoi Rice Hat is with us every Saturday from 6pm to 9pm.
Tori and Ana of Waffle+Co, with their sweet and savoury waffles, will be serving from 9am to 2pm every Thursday and Friday from 27th February
And Guillermo of Azahar will be rustling up tasty tapas every Friday night from 6pm to 9pm starting on 28th February (but not on 6th March and 17th April)
If you’d like to reserve a table or discuss a group booking, please give us a call on 01223 512122 or email email@example.com

Plan your visitHow many minutes have you got?
Just a few
an hour or two
Half a day
a full day
Start your day with brunch in the Electric Cafe or under the apple trees in the Secret Garden. Explore the Museum of Technology and then park the children in the Yurt while you catch up with the news on your laptop. Eat lunch in the open air and then spend an hour trying to escape from the Haunted House. End the day by letting your hair down at a Silent Disco or another one of our Regular Events, or just chilling on the Vartan Steps while watching the sun go down over the river.
THE OS BAR
Outside at OtherSyde. Set in the garden of the Engineer’s House, here you can enjoy locally brewed craft beers and ciders, freshly ground coffee, homemade cakes and savoury snacks.
Our food shack serves pizzas, burgers and haloumi fries. Vegetarian and vegan options are also available. See our menu for information about our food and drinks. Call 01223 512122 if you’d like to talk to us about catering for your event at OtherSyde.
Fresh sandwiches and toasties, homemade cakes and biscuits plus freshly ground coffee and a great range of teas. The cafe also plays occasional host to musicians of many stripes.
This is the place to sit and watch the world go by. Enjoy the sunshine, sunset and stars over the River Cam. Also a great spot for small-scale theatre performances, talks, presentations and al fresco meetings.
the giant tipi
Wow! You can hire the tipi for your private event or just book a table inside for you and your friends. Birthday party, silent disco, presentation? Tell us how you’d like to use our tipi. We’re always open to ideas.
Hidden behind an 8 foot high brick wall, 100 year old apple trees (mind your head if you sit underneath them!), dog roses, a large lawn and the OS Bar on hand to serve you with drinks and snacks all year round. The garden is dog friendly, child friendly and cycle friendly.
This is place to recharge (yourself and your smartphone), with a refreshing drink and a boost for your battery. With excellent views over the River Cam and across to Logan’s Meadow Nature Reserve on the opposite bank.
Children love our yurt. We’ve got games, books and construction kits in there and it works really well as a place to hold a kids’ party – though this is more for the summertime than any other time of year. But it’s not just for kids, adults can use the space as well. Suggestions to date include: palm reading, therapy, shisha sessions, drawing classes and late night poker games. What would you do in a yurt?
Before Lion Yard, there was Iron Yard: where upcycled metal objects have found new life as pieces of industrial furniture. Here, amongst other things, you can relax with a pint of locally brewed craft beer while playing a game of open air chess.
This a great place for performers to show off their talents. We don’t pay artists to play, and we don’t manage marketing and ticketing. What we do do is provide a free space for artists to perform in front of a friendly crowd at our outside bar. Come and talk to us if you’re looking for somewhere to strut your stuff. Please note that we like to keep our neighbours happy by keeping the noise levels to under 11.
The Museum of Technology
Big brother next door. Showing the progression of power technology from steam to electricity and home to historic working engines, telephone exchanges, printing presses and many more wonderful and interesting contraptions. Visit their website to find out more.
The Museum is also host to Escape from Disaster, a truly immersive escape game that includes a magical history tour of this wonder of Victorian engineering.
Guided tours of the Museum and the Haunted House can be booked online, and tables can be reserved in our cafe if you’d like to enjoy a meal during your visit.
For all enquiries and table reservations, please call us on 01223 512122

The Museum stands high above Cambridge and the surrounding area. Standing beside the beautiful River Cam between Stourbridge Common and Midsummer Common, the Museum shows the progression of technology from the age of steam through to the present day.
OtherSyde is delighted to be working in partnership with the Museum of Technology to restore the house of the Chief Engineer and to assist the Museum in enhancing its visitor experience.
“BrewBoard is a young independent craft brewer.
The Board has assembled from far and wide, bringing prodigious talent and experience together to produce something special.
Discerning drinkers assemble, there’s a new player in town …”
BrewBoard craft beers are always on tap at the OS Bar, OtherSyde.
The Cambridge Food Hub is an innovative food distribution system for the Cambridge area, aiming to increase the accessibility of sustainable food whilst supporting local producers and small businesses.
The Food Hub project is also working towards a visionary centre for all aspects of food: from production and consumption to education and research. We aim to be fair, progressive and sustainable in all of our actions.
Turf is an escape game company based in Aalsmeer, Holland that specialises in designing and building games for play within unique settings such as museums.
In partnership with OtherSyde, TURF has designed and built the puzzles for Escape from Disaster: a game that can be played by up to 32 people at a time in the incredible setting of the Boiler Room at the City’s old pumping station.
At OtherSyde we are actively exploring various themes that impact on all of us and trying to integrate the findings from those explorations into the way we run the business. Feel free to come and have a chat with us about your ideas/interests/concerns. Just come to the bar and ask to speak to Matthew.
The Future of Technology
Through our custom designed escape games, OtherSyde will be exploring both the past and the future of technology – which is rather fitting, given our location . Think time travel, steampunk ghostbusters and mind-bending puzzles that will challenge players at all levels of ability. Click here for a taste of what’s to come.
Arts and sustainability
OtherSyde supports artistic work that inspires us to think about sustainability. Many of the structures at OtherSyde, including the furniture in the Iron Yard, and the artworks that can be found across the site, are made from upcycled or recycled materials, many of them donated by the Museum of Technology.
Supporting the Museum
OtherSyde is limited company that is based in Cambridge and that aims to make a profit from its activities at the Museum of Technology. However, a percentage of all profits generated is paid to the museum, which is a registered charity, with a view to supporting the museum’s mission to preserve the industrial heritage of Cambridge. A major role that OtherSyde has played at the Museum has been the restoration of the Engineer’s House, which was badly damaged in an arson attack in 2006.
We support local businesses that provide work to local people. We work with Brewboard craft beer brewers, Cambridge Wine Merchants, Cambridge Food Hub, Mill Road Butchers and Enchanted Cinema, to name but a few!
Vegan, vegetarian or conscious meat eater? What we choose to eat can have profound effects on not only our health, but also our environment and the animals we share it with. At OtherSyde, we offer a great range of food and drink that will meet your needs, whatever your ethical stance or dietary requirements.
OtherSyde forms a vital part of the Museum of Technology’s Community Hub. We regularly co-host locally managed events with the Museum and volunteers from the Museum often get involved in projects that are managed by OtherSyde. OtherSyde is a warm and friendly space that welcomes local community groups to make use of the on-site facilities, often at little or no cost. If you have an idea for a locally managed event or meetup, please come and talk to us.
